Credit for Prior Learning
For returning students admitted to the Interdisciplinary Studies program, the Credit for Prior Learning process allows students with professional and lived experience that transcends traditional higher education to receive academic credit.
To pursue credit for prior learning, students must be nontraditional and/or returning learners who have declared the BIS major. Once declaring the major, students must then enroll in IDST 452, a portfolio development course that helps students in the Interdisciplinary Studies program reflect on how their career and prior learning experiences have led to skill development worthy of college credit. After completing a portfolio, students may then submit the portfolio to a panel of interdisciplinary faculty for evaluation. If successful, students may receive one to six additional upper-level credits in IDST 455.
Interested, accepted students may speak to their advisor to learn more about this process, while prospective students may speak to the Associate Director.
